Why a lab, and why a small one

Most software is built for the hours when you are already at your best: at a desk, caffeinated, with both hands free. Cosmic Labs is for the other hours. Half-asleep at 3 a.m. Waiting for a kettle. The five minutes before a thing fades.

That is a small brief on purpose. A lab is a place where you make a few things carefully and learn from each one before starting the next, and that is the whole plan here.

What every orbit shares

Each app the lab launches is a body on its own orbit, but they are pulled by the same three things.

• Private by design. Your data is yours. It exports cleanly, it never becomes the product, and the app works without phoning home.
• Free to keep. The core of every app stays free forever. The extras, the parts that cost real money to run, are what you pay for.
• Small on purpose. No growth team, no dark patterns, no roadmap decided by a dashboard. Just the next thing that seems worth making well.

The first orbit

Lunar Log is the first thing to leave the lab: a dream journal built for the moment between sleep and awake. It taught the lab most of what is written above, and the launch note, Lunar Log is in orbit, tells that story.
